INTRODUCTION

ABRAO Group has been an early adopter of Corporate Social Responsibility (‘CSR’) initiatives. Along with sustained economic demonstration, the growing trend towards CSR is driven by a few important factors such as environmental and social concerns which contribute to sustainable economic development and for complete business growth.

As a responsible corporate citizen, we try to contribute for social and economic development on regular basis by providing a dedicated approach to community development. ABRAO Group works towards improving healthcare infrastructure, supporting primary education, women empowerment, children, and preserving Indian art and culture. The organization’s focus has always been to contribute to the sustainable development of the societies and environment and to make our planet a better place for future generations.

UNDERTAKING CSR ACTIVITIES

ABRAO Group initiated ‘The Skill Development Workshop for Self Help Group (SHG) Women’ at New Perumbakkam, Chennai. The workshop was a concentrated effort to train and facilitate income generation for women participants. The CSR activities was approved by the CSR Committee.

ABRAO Group also supported needy people by sponsoring with dry ration and other essentials for the families at COVID–19 relief operations in Chennai city.

OUR CSR PROGRAMME AND PROJECTS

The ABRAO Group inaugurated and sponsored ‘The Skill Development Workshop for Self Help Group (SHG) Women’ on 9th October, 2019 at New Perumbakkam, Chennai. The purpose of the workshop was to train first 20 women in “Tailoring & Embroidery” that will help in facilitating income generation. Further, it was to empower their skill and raise self-confidence to work independently.

This new fully-equipped Skill Development Workshop was supported by The ABRAO Group and presented by TNSCB. Mr. George Abrao and Mr. Lenny Abrao, along with Mr. Krishna Kumar, Branch Head, Chennai and Ms. Shubha Sinha, HR & Admin, inaugurated the Skill Development Training Centre in the presence of Mr. J A Nirmal Raj, CCDO CRRT, Chennai and many other dignitaries.

Organized at Block No. 23, New Perumbakkam, the Skill Development Workshop initially targeted 20 women participants by training them in ‘Tailoring & Embroidery’ with the aim to assist women to secure income through their own efforts. Once the initial stage of training is completed, they were shifted to collaborative effort of Montfort Community Development Society (MCDS), Chennai with Utkarsh Global Foundation, Mumbai who worked together to stitch 2.5 crores of cloth bags and distribute them to Tamil Nadu Schools and other organisations. In addition to cloth bag stitching, the workshop also aimed to give an opportunity to stitch Churidar, Blouse, Frocks, etc. which were later supplied to reputed organisations. The Training Centre is equipped with 14 motorized tailoring machines designed to give quality training to deserving women of Perumbakkam region.

MCDS students performed and welcomed dignitaries with their Dance performances, Skit performance to create awareness on environment protection, and Folk-art performances. Mr. J A Nirmal Raj, CCDO CRRT thanked and appreciated the concrete effort initiated by MCDS in collaboration with The ABRAO Group. All the siblings of The ABRAO Group are the alumni of Montfort School, Yercaud.
